The Company of the
Daughters of Charity is the result of the combined magnificent
work of Saint Vincent and Saint Louise. Since the death of St.
Louise the Company has spread throughout the world and remains
faithful to its mission.
In 1830, a young lady, twenty-four years old, from Burgundy entered
the seminary of the rue du Bac…. The apparitions of the
Blessed Virgin to Catherine Labouré and the distribution
of the Miraculous Medal were followed by an extraordinary resurgence
of vocations for the Daughters of Charity as well as for the Priests
of the Mission. Zeal became more ardent. Through the years the
Company has continued its service in the spirit of the Founders
with humility, simplicity and charity.
Currently, the Daughters of Charity are present on 5 continents,
in 93 countries working with the poorest in the world. Worldwide,
there are approximately 23,000 Daughters of Charity among these
1,500 are in France.
